With Miss World being anticipated (it will happen in August, instead of November or December, as usual), the Miss World Brazil Organization decided to conduct a casting among candidates who participated in the national pageant in the years 2009, 2010, and 2011, to elect the Brazilian representative who will compete in Miss World 2012, Ordos, Inner Mongolia. The Miss World Brazil pageant, with participants from all states and some islands, will happen on September 22, and the winner will compete in Miss World 2013.

Sarah Hillware was crowned America’s Miss District of Columbia 2012 on January 14th, 2012. The America’s Miss Organization places emphasis on philanthropy and service. Ambitious, passionate, intelligent and kind are some words that can be used to describe this year’s America’s Miss District of Columbia 2012 state titleholder, Sarah Hillware. In addition, she’s funny, confident and has an approachable smile. Those who know her personally are inspired by her dedication to community service, healthy living, and her love for her favorite place, the District of Columbia.

Unlike many beauty pageant titleholders, Hillware has only competed in one other preliminary pageant, where she won the “Spirit of Miss DC Award” for enthusiasm and dedication. Sarah states that she has gained a great deal from that experience and has grown as a person, as well. Living in Washington, DC, Hillware says, “You have to know how to articulate and justify ideas, communicate with people from many different backgrounds, and be up-to-date on current events. Washington, DC women are classy and intelligent, and that is what I hope to embody as this year’s titleholder.”

Miss Hillware is also one busy bee! She is a junior, enrolled full-time, at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs. She studies global public health and upon graduation with her BA in 2013, will pursue both a Master of Public Health and a medical degree. She hosts an online radio show every Wednesday evening, highlighting local and global community efforts, entitled The Sarah Hillware Show. If that isn’t time-consuming enough, she serves on the advisory board for a nonprofit organization, volunteers regularly with 4 local organizations, is a youth advocate on Capitol Hill, and serves as a mentor to a handful of teens. Her platform, which she will be bringing awareness to this year, is “Knowledge Is Power: Empowering People to be Their Own Best Health Advocates.” Sarah will compete in July for the national title.

Helping and inspiring people are not only important, but essential, Sarah says. If there was one thing she could tell the world, she would say, “Be exactly who you are. We need each and every individual talent to contribute to creating a better world.”

She was crowned Miss Orange County Teen Regional 2012 just a few months ago was held at the beautiful Huntington Beach Historic Auditorium in Huntington Beach, California.

Currently, Alexa Jones is a model and a college student at California State University in San Marcos, majoring in communications. After winning the Miss Orange County Teen Regional 2012 tittle for sometimes, she learned that her father died in a car accident.

One afternoon, during a rigorous training with her Pageant Director, Giselle Boone,http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif her phone rang. “She appeared to be worried and just really pale,” Giselle said. Alexa replied, “I just need to go home.” Alexa soon rushed back to San Diego with her Mother. She called her Dad to find out who got into a car accident but he never answered his cell phone. About half an hour, half way to San Diego, she received the horrible news that it was her father that died in a car crash.
Currently, Alexa Jones is a model and a college student at California State University in San Marcos, majoring in communications

Ximena Vargas, who represented Bolivia in Miss International 2010, was the first international beauty queen crowned in 2012: she was chosen as the new International Queen of Coffee, in an event held in the city of Manizales, Colombia. Vargas also won the Most Beautiful Face award.

Top 5: Indonesia (3rd), Colombia (2nd), Brazil (5th), Bolivia (1st), Venezuela (4th)

The 1st runner-up was Miss Colombia, Yoselín Rincón, the 2nd runner-up was Miss Indonesia, Laskary Andaly, the 3rd runner-up was Miss Venezuela, Gabriella Ferrari, and the 4th runner-up was Miss Brazil, Aline Reis.

Indonesia participated in the pageant for the first time ever. Miss Venezuela, Gabriella Ferrari, will compete in Miss World 2012, in Ordos, China, on August 18.

One of the surprises of the night was the early elimination of Miss Costa Rica, Fabiana Granados Herrera, who had been chosen as “Police Queen”, and was considered one of the favorites for the crown.

Teresa Scanlan, a Nebraskan who won Miss America last year is getting ready to transfer her crown again to one of 53 pageant queens looking to prove they’ve got a winning combination of looks, talent and smarts to justify a yearlong run with the title.

To win, each will have to impress the panel in preliminary competitions that include an extensive interview to become one of the top 15 finalists.

More contestants will be eliminated Saturday night during swimsuit, evening gown and talent competitions.

The top five finalists will answer a question posed by one of the judges, who will score each of the contestants in each competition throughout the night.

Pageant officials announced the winners of preliminary competitions, including Miss Hawaii Lauren Cheape, Miss Oklahoma Betty Thompson and Miss Wisconsin Laura Kaeppeler for talent, and Miss New York Kaitlin Monte, Miss Texas Kendall Morris and Miss Utah Danica Olsen for swimsuit.

Officials also said Miss Idaho Genevieve Nutting won the $2,000 Fourpoints Award, while Miss Kentucky Ann-Blair Thornton won the $6,000 Quality of Life scholarship.

Jansen will not take part in the 2011 Miss Universe pageant broadcast live from São Paulo, Brazil on September 12, 2011 because she did not meet the age requirement to participate in the pageant. Jansen's first runner-up, Evalina van Putten, will compete instead in the pageant.

Born in Barranquilla on May 24, 1988, Daniella is the daughter of Gustavo Alvarez and Zandra Vásquez. She has two siblings, named Andrea and Richard. She is a Social Communicator and Journalism graduate from the Universidad del Norte in Barranquilla. She is now in her second half of specializing in "Organizational development and human processes" at the same institution. She is fluent in English and German. Daniela participated in the Miss Colombia 2011 pageant, representing the Caribbean coastal department of Atlantico. The pageant was held in the historical city of Catagena De Indias where she was crowned on November 14 by 2010's title holder, Catalina Robayo Vargas. She received the highest score in the evening gown competition with a 9.6/10. The swimsuit scores have not been released to the public. She became the 10th woman to be crowned Miss Colombia from Atlantico, which makes it the most successful department, though it is closely followed by Valle, (9 crowns) and Santander, (7 crowns).

Jordyn Jagolinzer-Machado, 16, from Seekonk, Massachusetts is a junior at St. Mary Academy - Bay View in Providence, Rhode Island - the same school Danielle Lacourse (RI USA 07) attended. She is an honors student in the AP Program with a 4.2 GPA. Her goal is to graduate in the top ten percent of her high-school class and attend the college of her choice where she'll receive a degree in Broadcast Journalism. She'd love to one day be on the Today Show or E! Jordyn is actively involved in her school community. She is a member of the Varsity Volleyball team, the Sailing team and is a member of the Peer Ministry group. She has received the President's Award for Educational Achievement, the Community Service Citizenship Award and has been nominated twice for the People-to-People Ambassador program.

Jordyn began volunteering at a very young age in honor of family members with different diseases. Organizations close to her heart include the New England Organ Bank and the Greater New England: National MS Society. She grew to have a passion for helping others and became increasingly involved with a variety of organizations. Having volunteered over 700 hours, she was honored with a citation from former Governor Romney & the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in recognition of her work and accomplishments. She has been teaching fourth-grade catechism classes at her church for two years and believes that in order to have a strong future you need to build a belief of oneself in younger generations of children in order to ensure their success.

As well as placing 1RU at Miss Massachusetts Teen USA last year, Jordyn was also first runner-up at Miss Massachusett's Outstanding Teen 2010.

Stephanie is a 17-year-old senior at The John Carroll School in Bel Air, where she is an honors student and involved in the National Art Honors Society. Marlee Ann Henry is the 18 year-old daughter of Mike and Alecia Henry. She has two older siblings Nic and Corren, 22 and 21 respectively. Marlee graduated from Lacassine High School and now attends McNeese State University where she is studying nursing. Carissa resides in Waterloo and is currently a senior at Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville. She has both an older and younger sister and younger brother. She has been touring colleges and is still undecided on her college choice, but is currently planning on a major centering on dietetics, nutrition, or exercise science, with a minor in Spanish.

In high school, she is a high honor role student and is currently the Yearbook Editor, Student Council Vice President, and National Honor Society Secretary/Treasurer. Biography

Kim, who is Filipino & Irish, is a senior this year at Skyview High School in Nampa, Idaho. She is the National Honor Society president and member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and Idaho Drug Free Youth. In the summer of 2010, Kim traveled to Orlando, Florida, with a HOSA team and competed in the HOSA Bowl, a game show competition designed to test a wide array of knowledge over health care in general. Nationally, they placed 6th in the country and was one of the top ranking Idaho teams ever in that event.

Aside from clubs, Kim is an athlete in track and field and takes advantage of concurrent enrollment programs through colleges and AP classes. This year alone she is studying Literature, Calculus, Organic Chemistry, and Physics while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Kim also enjoys volunteering in her community at the Salvation Army and the Canyon County Animal Shelter throughout the school months. On summer mornings, you'll most likely find her tutoring during the summer school program at the middle school she attended several years ago. In her free time, she likes to kick it and hang out with her best friends, adventure out to new places to eat, workout, and attend her school's sports events. A couple talents that Kim has been working on are her drawing abilities and guitar playing.

Some of the most important figures in Kim's life are her parents who have instilled within her a blunt determination to face any adversity in life, and the war veterans who have sacrificed their homes, families, and security, all so that we can maintain our own. After high school, Kim will continue with her education at a university most likely on the west coast. With a major in animal science or engineering, she hopes to later attend a school of veterinary medicine so that she can combine her love of animals, science, and medicine into a rewarding career benefiting not only animals but humans and society as well.

Alex is 17 years old and lives in Geneva, Illinois. She is the daughter of Kelli and Rick Plotz. Alex is a senior at Rosary High School in Aurora where she has participated in the Spanish Club, the school newspaper and the Go Green Club. Alex has been a member of the cheer squad for Marmion Academy in Aurora for the past four years. Mackenzie Surber is the 5'7", hazel-eyed daughter of Mike Surber and LuAnn Burke. Mackenzie resides in Cicero, Indiana. She attends Hamilton Heights High School and is a varsity cheerleader, a member of the tennis team and SADD Club Member. Her future goal is to become an air traffic controller. She believes one of her strongest talents is her ability to perform well under pressure. Mackenzie's favorite hobbies include playing tennis, tumbling and boating. Jacqueline moved to the USA from Italy as a child, living with her grandmother and older brothers. When her parents moved to the USA they relocated to Colorado. While attending public high school, Jacqueline consistently worked part-time in retail sales, she was a party coordinator for childrenÕs events, and sharpened her people-skills as hostess at various local eateries. Home-schooling suited Jacqueline and her familyÕs life-style and she enjoyed the opportunity to travel with her mother to volunteer in Costa Rica and Mexico.

Jacqueline loves animals, particularly her tea-cup Chihuahua named Princess. She also an avid football fan and never misses putting on her favorite Tebow jersey to watch a Sunday night game with her family. Daily workouts keep her fit and on her toes to compete with two of her brothers, who currently serve in the United States Marine Corps.

Jacqueline entered college in the fall of 2011 and is pursuing a career in forensic pathology. She wants to obtain a degree in the biological sciences, then a medical degree, and complete a forensic pathology residency program. She hopes to one day serve as a coroner and assist in crime scene investigations.

ZULWINI, Swaziland - Ayanda Dube (23, Luyengo) was crowned Miss Swaziland 2012 at the Woodlands Hall in Ezulwini during a contest that saw 13 girls competing for the title. Nosipho Mkhwanazi and Telamsile Zubuko finished second and third, respectively. The winner is expected to represent Swaziland in Miss World 2012 in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China, on July 4.

MISS SOUTH AFRICA 2012 - Melinda Bam

The Miss South Africa 2011 pageant took place at Sun City’s Superbowl last night and the crown was snatched by 22-year old marketing graduate Melinda Bam.

The title of Second Princess went to 21-year-old Thuli Sangweni, who won the Miss Congeniality sash earlier in the evening too.

First Princess was won by 21-year-old Remona Moodley – the second time she’s held a similar title. She was First Princess to Zizo Beda in Miss SA Teen 2006.

The ceremony aired live on Mzansi Magic and was hosted by ProVerb - who hosted last year too – with Michelle McLean in the commentary booth and Bridget Masinga behind-the-scenes and on the red carpet.

Miss Wyoming USA 2012, Holly Allen, is stepping up her preparation for the upcoming Miss USA 2012 Pageant. She was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Lander’s regular weekly meeting Dec. 29.

Born and raised in Lander and an integral part of her family’s dude ranch in the Wind River Mountains, Holly said she had done it all, from guiding guests, teaching dudes how to ride horses and to fish, and being the ranch chef. She said being in the outdoors has always been a part of her life, and that is one message that she is taking to each school she visits during her reign. “It’s so important for kids to get outside and be active, and I’m promoting that during my year,” she told the Rotarians.

Participating in pageants since she was 16 and in high school, Holly was the first runner-up in the 2011 Miss Wyoming USA Pageant. “It was an honor, but I didn’t want to be second place, so I went back and this year I won the crown.”

Holly received a Business and Marketing degree from California State University-Chico where she was on the executive board of her charity. Allen said she took some time off during her college to travel around Australia, including a month-long solo backpacking trip down under.

Outside of her pageant activities, Holly recruits IT staff for major corporations nationwide.

The Miss USA Pageant is held each summer in Las Vegas. “It’s much more than the one night you see on TV,” Allen said. “We’re there for three weeks of interviews, tours and pageant activities.”
